We discussed your request in our software development meeting today. The main issue is that Bentley's StormCAD program is simply doing a "peak flow" analysis. It is not routing the flow through the model and accounting for any attenuation that StormNET can account for.
StormNET routes the hydrograph that approaches the storm drain inlet, computes how much flow of this hydrograph actually is captured by the inlet, and then how much continues on to the next inlet. As such, it has to account for the travel time that occurs as the flow is routed. StormCAD does not need to worry about this using their simplified hydraulics.
However, your idea does have some merit, and we will try to come up with something that simplifies the model definition so that you could have a "generic" gutter and then simply define the distance to where the flow will be routed to. The "generic" gutter would have a default roughness (but you would be allowed to over-ride this value).
Thank you for the suggestion. We have many other improvements that users have requested that will be added to the storm drain inlet feature in StormNET.
