losses due to contraction and expansion

Dear Chris,

The breach in my model is only 5m (metres) wide and as high as the dam (the whole dam is about 60m wide and 30m high). I am using option 11 because the reservoir is very long.

I would like to know whether dambrk considers the friction losses due to contraction and expansion at the the 5m breach?

Thank you,

Karin

Re: losses due to contraction and expansion

Karin:

Note that DAMBRK considers the effects of contraction and expansion losses of the flow as it is routed downstream. However, the breach mechanics of the DAMBRK software does not account for contraction and expansion losses at the breach itself.

If you have severe contraction and expansion effects at the dam, then you need to add transition cross sections close to the dam.
