dambreak studies

I am required to review dambreak studies done by external consultants on council owned water supply dams in New South Wales Australia. I have personally used Boss DAMBRK for this purpose on over 10 occasions and found it to give good believable results.

I now have before me for review, a dambreak study done by a consultant using XP-SWMM. I am unfamiliar with this program and am therefore reluctant to approve the results. Does anybody know anything about the specifics of this program? Is it appropriate for analysing dambreak situations and for routing the rapidly varying flow downstream? If so what is the perceived accuracy of the results?

What would be the advantages/ disadvantages of BOSS Dambrk versus XP-SWMM? If anyone can give me any advice on this I would be MOST grateful as it may or may not end up costing a dam owner a lot of money

THANK YOU AND REGARDS FROM DOWN UNDER
