How to use BOSS DAMBRK

Dear Mr. Maeder,

I have downloaded your dambrkum.pdf from your website and it turns out that the contents is exactly the same with the manual we have received along with the software CD-ROM. So my question persists.

What I want to know is how to view your example input file or an existing input file, say file p04.dbk, on your screen so I can edit that file in accordance to the on-screen data inputting form. I tried several times but I could not find any hint for that. In para 3.6.2 Loading an Input File of the manual, there is no explanation about that, and this paragraph just says, at point 6, : 'After loading the input data file you will be immediately returned to the Data Control Menu'. No explanation how to view and edit the data after loading.

It is difficult to understand about data for cross-section (para 4.7.1 Cross-Section Description) as there is no sketch drawing explaining this. I want to know what is ENTRY NUMBER, ELEVATION, CHANNEL TOP WIDTH, STORAGE TOP WIDTH, LEFT FLOOD PLAIN TOP WIDT, etc. If you could provide me a sketch drawing explaining where the above parameters on a cross-section are, that will be very helpful.

Thank you very much for your attention and your prompt reply on the above urgent matters is highly appreciated.

Regards,
Kabul Suwitaatmadja

Re: How to use BOSS DAMBRK

Dear Kabul Suwitaatmadja :

I will layout the steps that will allow you to see how to define a DAMBRK model using our Input Pre-Processor.

1. Start up DAMBRK.

2. Select INPUT DATA.

3. Select DATA FILE CONTROL.

4. Select the problem P04.DBK from the file selection window. These files are stored in the EXAMPLES subdirectory.

5. You will automatically be returned to the DATA CONTROL MENU. Select ENTER INPUT DATA.

6. Select PROJECT DESCRIPTION. You are in the PROJECT DESCRIPTION data input screen. To exit this data input screen, press <Escape>.

7. Select REACH DESCRIPTION. You are in the CROSS-SEFCTION LOCATION SELECTION data input screen. Select the cross-section you want to look at by pressing "S" to SELECT. Then, point to the cross-section ID and press <Enter>. Choose cross-section 0, which is where the dam is located at.

8. Select CROSS-SECTION DESCRIPTION.You will be in the CHANNEL CROSS-SECTION DESCRIPTION data input screen. To go to the next data input screen, press <Page Down>. This will take you to the CROSS-SECTION GEOMETRY screen.

9. To see the cross-section geometry graphically, press function key <F3>. To exit the graphic screen, press <Escape>. To exit back the previous menu, press <Escape>. To move to the next cross-section, press <Alt +>, to the previous cross-section, press <Alt ->.

Note that data input screen navigation hints are at the bottom of the screen, and also available from pressing Function Key <F1>. Also, this navigation is discussed in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of the DAMBRK User Manual which you have.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.
