Conservation of Mass Value

Chris,

I was wondering if you could explain to me the theory behind the "mass conservation percentage" that DAMBRK lists every time it completes a run. Specifically, how does this relate to lateral inflows and the specified storage top widths? There is no discussion of it in the manual but I would like to know what goes into calculating the number.

Thanks,
Eric.

Re: Conservation of Mass Value

Dear Eric :

This is an indicator of how close the computations have converged to an correct answer. If there is a lot of problem in convergence, then the conservation of mass value will indicate that. If the number is low, then the computations converged well.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.

Sincerely,

Re: Conservation of Mass Value

Chris,

Thanks. So it really doesn't relate directly to flow stored or inflowe'd per se, but rather how well the flow balance between iterations at each time step worked out?

Eric.
