how to and what to learn in hydraulic modeling?

folks,
I am a fresher in this realm of knowledge and in my career.
I have done a course in Surface Water Modeling in which I used EPA-SWMM. But that was not substantial at all. I did not learn much in that course.

I have a Civil Engineering background and taken several courses in hydraulics (open channel, Laminar & turbulent flow).

Nowdays I am looking for a job in water resources/hydraulic modeling field.
I have 1+ year experience in Water/wastewater treatment (process design)
So I am asking for your suggestion on:
1)where do i start to get a job in this field in terms of knowledge ?
2)what software to learn first?
3)how to learn it?

thanks for your suggestions!
