Stochastic Rainfall Generator

Hi SWMMers-

I've been subscribed to the list for several months and as a student have learned a great deal from the discussions. Thanks to the maintainers of the list and all the contributors. And perhaps in the future I will be able to contribute.

I do have a quick question/request. I am in need of a stochastic rainfall simulator to generate long term records of hourly precipitation for use as input to SWMM. Does anyone have any recommendations, suggestions, or experiences that they can offer? And, please include information on how the simulator can be obtained.

Thanks,
Steve Burian

Re: Stochastic Rainfall Generator

Daily rainfall generator can be found easily compared to a hourly rainfall generator.

USDA, ARS at Texas A&M has developed several programs (SWRRB, SWAT, etc.) which use daily rainfall simulator subroutines. You can contact Nancy Sammons of USDA (sammons@brcsun0.tamu.edu) for programs and details.

Maidment's Handbook of Hydrology has plenty of references (p. 19.63-19.72) regarding simulation of stochastic rainfall, which will lead you to programs (if available). Also you may find a paper and a program which specifically fits your objective.
