WHAFIS

HAS ANYONE HEARD OF A STORM SURGE ANALYSIS PROGRAM CALLED WHAFIS? IT WAS MENTIONED TO ME IN A BRIEF CONVERSATION AND I MAY HAVE MISUNDERSTOOD THE NAME. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND FOR IT, BUT SO FAR HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND OUT ANYTHING ABOUT IT, OR IF IT REALLY EXISTS. I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED BY FEMA. SORRY I CAN'T SUPPLY ANY MORE INFORMATION. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS

FW: WHAFIS

Hi! Michael:

The WHAFIS (Wave Height Analysis for Flood Insurance Studies) model is one created by FEMA to simulate wave heights for coastal flood insurance mappings. A copy of the program (Version 3.0) and the user's manual can be obtained from Dewberry & Davis (703-849-0392).

Hope this helps.

I believe the acronym stands for "Wave Height Ananlysis for Flood Insurance Studies" and was developed by FEMA for analyses of coastal flooding. The best people to explain the model's function are at the FEMA Region IV Office in Atlanta, or one of FEMA's Technical Evaluation Contractors, probably either Dewberry and Davis or Michael Baker, Jr. (I think both are located in Alexandria, VA)
