Rainfall input question

I AM REQUIRED TO CONFIRM PREVIOUS SWMM FILES THAT WERE DEVELOPED BY ANOTHER CONSULTANT USING XPSWMM. AMONG MANY ISSUES, MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS THE PRECIPITATION INPUT. IT SEEMS THAT THE XPSWMM FILES ARE IN A FORMAT THAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH PCSWMM.

XPSWMM DATA FILES:

E1 0 10 0 0 0 -21 3 0
E3 0 0.21 0.46 0.71 0.91 1.05 1.16 1.26 1.34 1.39
E3 1.46 1.5 1.55 1.58 1.62 1.66 1.69 1.71 1.73 1.76
E3 1.78

THE 10 YEAR, 1 HOUR STORM VOLUME IS 1.78 INCHES. DO YOU AGREE THE VALUES ARE CUMULATIVE? ALSO, HOW WOULD YOU ENTER THE DATA IN THE PCSWMM PROGRAM -- AS INCREMENTAL VALUES??

ALSO, I AM HAVING DIFFICULTY TRANSLATING XPSWMM OUTPUT RUNOFF FILES INTO PCSWMM FILES WITHOUT ANY OTHER BACKGROUND INFO/ SCHEMATICS.. ANY ADVICE??

THANKS,
TONJA M

Re: Tonja M.'s rainfall input question

Yes, it looks like XP-SWMM allows the user to enter cumulative rainfall. That's a neat feature that SWMM4.4 (and therefore PC- SWMM and MIKE SWMM) doesn't have.

To enter this event in SWMM4.4 format, cut/paste the following:
* KTYPE KINC KPRINT KTHIS KTIME KPREP NHISTO THISTO TZRAIN
E1 0 10 0 0 0 1 21 3.0 0.0
E3 0.00 0.21 0.25 0.25 0.20 0.14 0.11 0.10 0.08 0.05
E3 0.07 0.04 0.05 0.03 0.04 0.04 0.03 0.02 0.02 0.03
E3 0.02

Re: Tonja M.'s rainfall input question

Hello

Mike Gregory comments aside that PCSWMM doesn't process cumulative rain (you a PCSWMM user, Mike?!). In fact the RAINPAK module in PCSWMM allows manipulation of rain data into various input formats, including automatic re-aggregation. Of course RAINPAK is best known for storm dynamics, but it also facilitates processing data from varied rain instrumentation, like pluviometer observations. Perhaps if anyone is still interested email Rob at info@chi.on.ca and he will explain how it works. Thanks.
