SWMM Continuous Simulation

I am doing my research on the application of SWMM to evaluate water quality and quantity of a watershed. I would like to use the Runoff and Transport blocks for a continuous simulation. I am not sure if there is a big difference between an event run and a continuous run. What should I be concerned about regarding the continuous simulation? I appreciate any advices and help such as providing some literatures or previous research.
