SWMM and WASP linkage

Hello,

I'm working on a project involving the use of SWMM and WASP5 together, and I have a few questions about taking the output from SWMM and using it as input to DYNHYD and WASP.

1. I have found that the TRANSPORT block can create a file specifically for input to WASP, using the H2 and H3 lines. Am I correct that this is the only block that can do this?

2. Several mentions are made in the SWMM manual (Huber and Dickinson, October 1992) about SWMM being coupled to DYNHYD and WASP (version 3) by way of the SWMM interface file, with the implication being that DYNHYD and WASP can actually open and read a SWMM interface file. But I find no mention whatsoever of this in the WASP (version 5) manual. Are they able to do this in their stock form, or do I need to rewrite the data from the interface file into the format that DYNHYD and WASP expect for nonpoint sources?

3. Is SWMM 4.4 any different from 4.31 with respect to these questions? Without a complete manual for 4.4 it's difficult for me to tell.

Thanks for any help.

Re: SWMM and WASP linkage

In April 1997 the Southwest Florida Water Management District released Version 2 of its Linked Watershed/Waterbody Model (LWWM). Version 2 of the LWWM couples the RUNOFF Block of SWMM (ver. 4.31, recomplied for 10 land uses) with DYNHYD5 and RIVMOD (hydrodynamic models) and WASP5. The post-processsor that accompanys the LWWM maps SWMM flows to DYNHYD or RIVMOD, and constituent loads to WASP. Version 2 was still a DOS based model with many inherent problems, mostly memory related. It may be of some use to you. Images of the zipped installation diskettes (5) are downloadable from the Distirct's web page, as is the User's Manual, Test Application Report, and GIS interface code for Arc/Info. Simply, go to our web page at http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/ and click on software. Please call me at (813) 985-7481, Extension if you have any questions.

This last year +/- we have been having our consultant AScI Corp. port the LWWM to Windows 95. This version of the LWWM will include a preprocessor for the EXTRAN Block of SWMM. We are about 98% of the way there, and hope to have a final deliverable by the end of summer. When that occurs, I will post a message to the SWMM-Users group.

Re: SWMM and WASP linkage

As far as I am aware, the TRANSPORT block is the only direct link to WASP via the hydrodynamics interface file in versions 4.4A and less.

CDM is presently working on an option in EXTRAN that allows EXTRAN to write the WASP hydrodynamics interface file. Expect this option to be up and running in a month or two. This will be incorporated into newest release to be issued by Wayne Huber later this year.
