Stepped Spillway Chute

I am modeling a spillway that will be a series of 10-ft high steps, ranging between 100 and 200 feet apart. What's the best way to analyze the water surface profile (even w/ a spreadsheet calculation)?

Re: Stepped Spillway Chute

Hi Dave

I suggest that you get hold of a copy of:
Chanson H., Hydraulic Design of Stepped Cascades, Channels, Weirs and Spillways, Pergamon Press, 1994. According to my copy the USA publisher is Elsevier Science Inc, 600 White Plains Rd, Tarrytown, New York 10591-5153, USA.

The analysis of profiles on stepped chutes gets quite hairy depending on the step height and spacing, the slope and roughness of the step platforms and the presence of baffle blocks to control the hydraulic jumps that may or may not form at the bottom of each jet.

Re: Stepped Spillway Chute

I am " AMANJ JAMAL" a master degree student at field of hydraulic my research title " Design of stepped spillway and preferebility evaluation for High Dams", so i ask for any available information on this topic or any other information related to this topic.
i want to make a model on stepped spillway at lab but limitation of our lab space is too narrow so i ask for fix variables if possible.
with best of my regards.
