Re: vista compactibility

Try changing the default project directory. Open HEC-HMS and select the Tools-->Program Settings menu option. Manually change the Project Directory to a location that exists on your computer. The default location is under "My Documents" which does not exist on a machine running Vista.

Re: vista compactibility

Has anyone found any workaround for this? It seems that HMS and RAS are both incompatible with Vista.

Re: vista compactibility

You need to download and install the latest java runtime environment (JRE6 update 2). Try this link http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp. After you install JRE6, you will need to update the HEC-HMS command file. This file is named "HEC-HMS.cmd"
and is located on my computer in the following folder, C:\Program Files\HEC\HEC-HMS\3.1.0. Open this file using Notepad. The last line in this file should look like ----- "C:\ProgramFiles\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\javaw.exe" -Xcheck:jni -ms32M -mx1024M %PY_OPTS% %JAVA_LIB_OPT% -classpath %JARS% %PROG% %ARGS%. Yours will differ based on where you installed JRE6. Attached is a copy of a modified command file. You will have to start HEC-HMS by double clicking on the modified command file. You could create a shortcut to the command file and place that short cut icon on your desktop.

One is th Java TM Runrime and additionaly the new on - the JRE ver. 6. After editing the hec-hms.cmd file so that the last line of the file tell's HMS were has to find tje java and rest of the things... everything is like before. I'm not able to browse to my files. Re: vista compactibility

IS there around somebody thas has HMS running well under Vista? It, at least, woul be usefull to know. Hec_Ras 4.0 can work if the regional settings ar setup to US units.

Re: vista compactibility

Hello Daene,

Having the same problem as others, I attempted your fix. No success so far, but I think that's because I have not arranged the command file properly. Still working on it.

You did or attempted to attach a file to a previous e-mail, an example command file. I notice that there are only certain valid file extensions for attachments, "image" type formats. Anyway, I don't find it attached in this forum.

Can you send it directly to me, or post it someplace where I can access it?
