Error 40001

I am a new HEC HMS user and have a project which was imported from an older HEC1 model.

After checking through the components and other info I decided to run a test run to find any other problems with the import. The run terminated early with an error note as follows:

ERROR 40001: Could not retrieve surface flow data for subbasin "3B".
Data filename: C:/.../Hydrology.dss
Data pathname: //3B/FLOW-DIRECT//3MIN/RUN:TEST RUN/

I can't find any information on this error report and do not know how to go about fixing or getting around it. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you much.

You can use HEC-DSS (you can download it from the HEC website) to have a look at your DSS file. I would either double check the pathnames or retrieve the data again.

Error 40001: Could not retrieve surface flow data for subbasin "W690".

Hi!

I'm having the same error report:

ERROR 40001: Could not retrieve surface flow data for subbasin "W690".
Data filename: C:/Documents and Settings/JJacob/My Documents/joćo/GIS/HEC_Models/HEC-HMS/AljezurBasin/AljezurBasin.dss
Data pathname: //W690/FLOW-DIRECT//1MIN/RUN:Run 1/

I've loaded a time series data (precipitation gage) from an external .dss file. I wasn't able to do the manual entry. Don't know why.

I've tried to open the .dss from my project and DSSvue says that it doesn't exists. I think the problem resides here.

I'm a recent user of HEC-HMS and I don't know how to insert the the time series data into the .dss of the project.

Can anybody help me with this?

Joćo,

You can not have special characters is directory pathnames or file names (you have a special character in your pathnanme - "...Documents/joćo/GIS/..."). This is an issue on the HEC-HMS known problems page. Try saving the project to a directory that has no special characters in the pathname.
