Flow Distribution Table

Fellow HEC-users,

Has anybody had success utilizing the flow distribution detailed output
table option in the report generator of RAS 3.0? If you have, please
let me know any tricks required. Every time I try, the only output
generated is the standard header. The same thing happens when I request
the conveyance table.

Thanks!

Re: Flow Distribution Table

Jeremy - Before execution, on the steady flow analysis screen, under
options, select "Flow distrbution locations", and fill out the form on
the "Set Locations for Flow distribution" pop-up menu. After
execution, in the cross section graphical plot, under options, select
"velocity Distribution" and on the pop-up menu check the box for Plot
Velocity Distribution.

This matter is discussed in the user's manual pages 7-11 et seq, and pp
9-6 and 9-7.

Good luck

Re: Flow Distribution Table

Thanks Ron,

I've actually been able to successfully view the velocity distribution
in the cross- section plot. What I'm looking for is tabular text output
from the report generator (File -> Generate Report ...). The end result
that I need is the peak discharge at a range of cross-sections based on
the flow distribution calculations performed by HEC- RAS. I realize
that you get tabular output with the cross-section table viewer, but
with more than a few cross-sections, this becomes a very tedious
process. Therefore, what I would like is a text file that reports the
velocity distribution at each cross- section. With this, I can write an
algorithm to extract the peak velocity from each cross-section that will
run in a few seconds. Any more suggestions?

Thanks!
Jeremy

Re: Flow Distribution Table

Jeremy - I think you can peal a text file off with that data from the
Cross Section Output Table option menu - flow Distribution Output. The
tabular data can be printed and/or put on the clipboard where you can
get at it with EXCEL. Still not real smooth if you have to do a lot of
them but...

Good luck,
