In the following article Professor Michael Quick breaks down the
uncertainty in post-facto flood flow estimates into 4 categories, the
last of which deals with the question of how much of the stream power
was consumed in transporting sediment during the event:

Quick M. 1991. Reliability of flood discharge estimates. Canadian J.
of Civil Engineering, 18(4):624-630

The case of the Simonette River in BC is used. He argues that sediment
transport would 'drive up' the apparent n quite a bit; this is very
bothersome because event-specific sediment transport has a high degree
of uncertainty in it, as everyone knows.
