importing x-sec from AutoCad

Currently, after a full survey, I am useing AutoCad land Development to form my surface and cut my x-section. Once I have cut my x-sections in AutoCad is there a way I can import them into HEC-RAS 3.0 unstead of entering them by hand

Thanks,

Michael

Re: importing x-sec from AutoCad

I had the same problem and found until yet no fast way to import DWG or DXF-objects like Polylines.

This way works, but takes effort.

1. Make sure, that your profile line has the correct xyz-coordinates. May be you have to use 3d-rotate.

2. Use the "LIST"-command for the polyline

3. copy the coordinate data in a text file

4. change your text file in a form like this:

XYZ
METRIC
METRIC
0
0
XS 100
0.01 0 497.4
0.28 0 497.36
0.58 0 497.39
and so on ...

5. use the HEC-RAS Command Reach-Import-Import Coordinate file

May be you have to use Topolink to align the profile

I hope it works

Re: importing x-sec from AutoCad

I have successfully transferred survey or AUTOCAD generated x-section to
HEC-RAS 3.1 by having the data in text file format, in MS EXCEL. The
data should be prepared as required by HEC-RAS, i.e Left to rightlooking
downstream to upstream of the channel. Then I just cut from EXCEL and
paste in HEC-RAS cross section window.

I hope this helps.
Sillah.

Re: importing x-sec from AutoCad

Depending on the number of cross-sections you have, could be easier to
copy and paste the lists one by one, perhaps passing first through excel
to order columns. If not, you can program an excel spreadsheet that
automatically change to this format.

I Hope it heps,
Jordi

Re: importing x-sec from AutoCad

if you have a microstation at hand you can draw a fence and export
coordinates with the function xyz-text into an ascii file, edit it with
excel if necessary and copy/paste into RAS
