develop rating curve?

Hello group. I want to develop a theoretical stage-discharge relationship for an small urban stream. After a little research I believe I can develop the rating curve using the HEC-RAS model. I have never used the model and would like some insight on how difficult this will be and what are the required model inputs. Thanks for your help.

Re: develop rating curve?

The stage-discharge curve is a natural output of the program. However,
the difficulty of putting a model together just depends on the
complexity of the stream. From myour description, it sounds as if it
would be a simple modeling project. A basic knowledge of hydraulic
theory and a user's manual should get you by just fine.

Re: develop rating curve?

Hi,

To create a rating curve in hec-ras you need to input channel cross
sections and flow or water levels (depending on the flow type) at the
upstream and/or downstream. You can produce rating curves for any cross
section you input into the program or for any interpolated sections in
between. Your best way to learn how to do this is to open one of the
samples and see how these data are input. It's simple and easy.
