Inline Storage

Is it possible to model inline storage in Hec Ras using storage areas? I am trying to model a system with storage areas at the upstream boundary of my reach - but the model does not run properly. The Model is intended for a dam break analysis, and there is an inline structure connecting the inline storage to the reach. Is this a correct approach, our do I have to use a lateral structure to model a weir in connection to a storage area?

Re: Inline Storage

You can model an inline storage using storage areas. There needs to be two normal cross sections between the inline weir and the storage area.

Alternately, you can model your reservoir as a series of very large, normal, cross sections with an inline weir at the downstream end (this has the advantage that it allows for a sloping water surface while the reservoir is draining--but this isn't usually that big of a concern).

I would not recommend a lateral weir.
