HEC-GeoRAS: Error creating layers

Hi,
I've just started using HEC-GeoRAS and for some reason I can't do anything with it. When I try to create any layer, for instance the stream centerline, I get an error message saying "Create Stream Centerline Error: Error occurred while creating Stream Centerline". Any ideas on what might be causing the problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jacob

Re: HEC-GeoRAS: Error creating layers

Hi,

Please check that you have "Spatial Analyst" extension added into your Arc-View along with Geo-RAS extension.

Geo-RAS only works with "Spatial Analyst" extension in ArcView.

Re: HEC-GeoRAS: Error creating layers

Thanks for replying John.

I do have both the Spatial Analyst and HEC-GeoRas extensions, as well as the 3D Analyst extension. All are licenced and activated, yet I still have the problem of not being able to create the layers using the HEC-GeoRAS extension. I'm using ArcView 9.1, and I downloaded HEC-GeoRAS for this ArcView version specifically from the USACE website.

Thanks again for the help, hopefully someone can help me out on this.

Re: HEC-GeoRAS: Error creating layers

It sounds like you have installed GeoRas Incorrectly.

You must uninstall the APFramework, MSXML and the xml data exchange tools before installing GeoRas.

Once they are uninstalled they must be reinstalled in the correct order as detailed in the file: Installation Instructions 4.1.txt included with GeoRas.

Good Luck.

P.S. don't forget to reboot after uninstalling.

Re: HEC-GeoRAS: Error creating layers

I've done that too I'm afraid. I installed the three tools you mentioned exactly as was described in the HEC-GeoRAS installation instructions the first time. When the program didn't work, I uninstalled them all and reinstalled them again, yet I still have the same problem. So I'm stumped. Thanks for replying though. Anyone else want to take a stab at this?

Re: HEC-GeoRAS: Error creating layers

Well, as a last resort you could uninstall everything, including ArcGIS 9.1. Then reinstall everything starting with ArcGIS, then all the programs as suggested in the GeoRAS installation file.
It takes a long time, but if you feel you've tried everything else... you might as well try this.

Re: HEC-GeoRAS: Error creating layers

Thankfully, before reinstalling everything, I've somehow solved the problem. Still not sure what exactly the problem is, but I have an idea. I got the Geo-RAS tool to work properly on a different map. So, afterwards I started a new project in a different directory, and imported my info from the old project and it seems to be working now. The GeoRAS manual says something about not having "wild-card" characters in the path name, as it will affect post-processing. Although, having not started even the first step of the HEC-GeoRAS stuff I certainly wasn't at the stage of post-processing, I did have both spaces and the date input as a number for the name of one of my directories, so maybe those were the "wild-cards" and that was the problem. Anyways, seems to be working properly now, thanks again for all your help.
