Maximum Average Velocity at a Cross Section

Hello,

Has anyone tried to obtain the maximum average velocity at a cross section during an unsteady flow simulation? I am having trouble obtaining a time series plot of velocity or an option to give maximum velocities.

It is easy to obtain the peak flowrate....from which I could use the cross sectional area to compute average velocity, but then what is the area at the peak flow? And what if there is another value of area and another value of flowrate....not necessarily the peak flowrate..... that gives a higher velocity? It would certainly be simplest if I could obtain the plot of velocity over time.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,

Vince

Re: Maximum Average Velocity at a Cross Section

The only solution i have for you involves copying out data to Excel or similar program and using the Maximum function to determine the highest velocity at a given cross section.

Depending on how long of a time period you are running your model for and how many cross sections you have, this could be a very time consuming process. Hopefully both of these are a reasonable number.

Open the "Standard table 1" output table. Go to options:Profiles and then select all of the profiles. You will now have a large data table.

Copy this data to Excel and using an equation find the maximum value in the column of "vel chnl"

Hope this helps, but note this could be a time consuming process.

MikeL,

Thanks for the insight. This should be helpful....you would think that they would make it easier to obtain velocities as a function of time in the unsteady simulation!
