Trouble in importing GeoRAS (for ArcGIS 9.2)

Hi there,

I am facing the trouble of importing results from HEC-GeoRas (for ArcGIS 9.2) into HEC-RAS v4.0.

The trouble is that in ArcGIS, the elevation of the lowest elevation of all cross section is 90, for example. After the standard procedure of exporting from HEC-GeoRAS and importing into HEC-RAS, the geometry of the river is AUTOMATICALLY and SYSTEMATICALLY shifted down with the lowest elevation of all cross section is 20, for example. The shape of the cross section looks fantastic i.e. looks exactly the same to what can be seen on HEC-GeoRAS.

I have faced this trouble before and have thought of the NOT-AGREEMENT between different versions used. I have uninstalled ArcGIS, HEC-GeoRAS (together with all extra modules) and HEC-RAS and reinstall them all with the latest version. However, the issue cannot be sovled.

Any help or suggestion is very much appreciated.

I would say that the first step to trouble shooting this problem would be to open the GIS2RAS.RASImport.sdf (or what ever you named the export file) with a text editor and see if it contains the correct values. In this way you should be able to determine if the problem is in the GIS or RAS part of the process.

Also do the values get reduced by exactly 70 units? If not, can you provide actual numbers and units being used (m or ft)?

The answer to your question is YES, it is about 70 unit of differences. Do you know why it is the case and how to improve it?

Did you look at your GIS2RAS.RASImport.sdf file? What did you find? This step is critical to solving your problem.

Also I asked if it was EXACTLY a 70 unit difference or if it was ABOUT a 70 unit difference. Based on your reply I am still not sure. What system of units are you using (ft or m)? Can you provide the exact values for one point?

Thanks very much for your consideration.

I can solve them all now. It is the problem of different versions of ArcGIS, HEC-RAS and HEC-GeoRAS (togehter with others). I have uninstalled everything and reinstalled them all carefully and the system works well now.
