HEC-RAS v4.0/Check-RAS v1.4 Extraction Errors
11/21/08
I have a few quick things that you can check, if these do not help please let me know and I will call you to talk it over.
Are you using HEC-RAS 4.0? The full release version is available from the FEMA website. What is the date of your Check-RAS exe file? It should be 1/10/08. The exe file created by the down-loaded Check-RAS 'set-up' program will produce a Check-RAS exe file with a 2005 date. You must over-write this with the separate exe file that comes with the download. The new exe file has a patch that allows the program to run with v4.0. This is further explained on the web page.
FEMA: CHECK-RAS, Version 1.4 (June 2008)
Delete any report file that you may have already generated and do it again. Be sure to select ‘asterisks for borders’; choose all of the profiles; and all the necessary ‘Specific Tables (detailed Output)’ needed for your model. It is better to choose more than you need than not. I recommend choosing at least all of the boxes down the left side.
Here are a few other points that may cause extraction issues.
Be sure that the “HEC-RAS set-up”, from the Check-RAS “File” drop-down menu is pointing to your HEC-RAS v4.0 exe file and not the folder where your model is kept or another version of HEC-RAS.
Be certain that the “Include Node Names in Table” and “Include Profile Name in Table” are NOT selected from the “Options” drop-down menu of the “Profile Output Table” within HEC-RAS v4.0. This must be confirmed prior to generating the Check-RAS report.
Check-RAS does not respond to inline structures. You need to remove these from the HEC-RAS model prior to building the report.
Does your HEC-RAS model have large steam names or reach names in the geo file? Try to keep them short and simple. The same goes for the profile names used in your HEC-RAS model. ■
HEC-RAS
Create a Check-RAS User Table
Generate a HEC-RAS Report
Extract HEC-RAS Data into Check-RAS
11/21/08
Delete any report file that you may have already generated and close your HEC-RAS program. Be sure that the “HEC-RAS set-up”, from the Check-RAS “File” drop-down menu is pointing to your HEC-RAS exe file and not the folder where your model is kept. If you have multiple versions of HEC-RAS on your computer, this will need to be switched depending on the task at hand. Open Check-RAS and try to extract from the HEC-RAS .prj file. Check-RAS should prompt you that no report has been made and ask if you want to make it. Say yes and your HEC-RAS program should spring open. Once HEC-RAS opens automatically, ‘User Tables’ should now be one of the drop-down menus available within the “Profile Output Table” command of the main window.
Now when you go to the main window of HEC-RAS and click on ‘File’ ‘Generate Report’ The Check-RAS table should be available for selection within the ‘Available Summary Tables’. Single click this so that it appears in the right hand column, ‘Selected Summary Tables’. Be sure to select ‘asterisks for borders’; choose all of the profiles; and all the necessary ‘Specific Tables (detailed Output)’ needed for your model. It is better to choose more than you need than not.
Complete the process by pressing the ‘generate report’ button. Once the process has finished running, hit the Check-RAS extract button again. The Check-RAS ‘select profiles’ window should appear. ■
HEC-RAS
Create a RASplot User Table
Generate a RASplot Report
Extract HEC-RAS Data into RASplot
11/21/08
Delete any report file (Explorer) and RASplot user table (HEC-RAS, Profile Output Table, Options, Remove Table) that you may have already generated and close the HEC-RAS program. Be sure that the “HEC-RAS set-up”, from the RASplot “File” drop-down menu is pointing to your HEC-RAS exe file and not the folder where your model is kept. If you have multiple versions of HEC-RAS on your computer, this will need to be switched to point to the version that you are currently working with. Open RASplot and try to ‘open’ and ‘extract’ from the HEC-RAS .prj file. RASplot should prompt you that no report has been made and ask if you want to make it. Say yes and your HEC-RAS program should spring open. Once HEC-RAS opens automatically, ‘User Tables’ should now be one of the drop-down menus available within the “Profile Output Table” command of the main window.
Now when you go to the main window of HEC-RAS and click on ‘File’ ‘Generate Report’ The RASplot table should be available for selection within the ‘Available Summary Tables’. Single click this so that it appears in the right hand column, ‘Selected Summary Tables’. Be sure to select ‘asterisks for borders’; choose all of the profiles (those that you don’t want to plot can be turned off inside of RASplot); and all the necessary ‘Specific Tables (detailed Output)’ needed for your model. It is better to choose more than you need than not.
Complete the process by pressing the ‘generate report’ button. Once the process has finished running, try to ‘open’ and ‘extract’ from the HEC-RAS .prj file again. The RASplot working table window should appear. ■
