Re: HEC-RAS - SOLUTION!

Dear Nicole
Overall I thank you for the help.

I found the origin of my problem with HEC-RAS. It's a problem linked to the customization of Windows95 for Italian user. The program makes misunderstanding between the symbols "." and "," wich separate decimal units. If I set Windows 95 with american english default and restart all, program works OK. If I let my ordinary settings program fails.

Thanks again.

HEC-RAS - SOLUTION!

Hm... this was it not on our German Windows NT 4.0. Setting an English interpretation of "." and "," first seems to work, but... if I reopen previously saved Cross Section Data, the "." in any value disappears.

"11.5" is being translated to "115", "11.56" to "1156".

If I open the .g01 file in notepad, the values are correct. HEC-RAS deletes the "."'s in the opening routine.

Any Idea?
Thanx for help,
Volker Birk

A: HEC-RAS data corruption

Sorry for bothering you with unattached attachments, but I think our computer guru found out what was wrong:

For unknown reasons it seems that HEC-RAS (under NT 4.0) does not consider only the number format in the regional settings, but also the currency (!) format. BOTH decimal points have to be set to the "." dot character.

This might not be a common problem in the US, but on the old continent things go different ways ...

Anyway, thanks for caring!
