HEC-RAS limits

HEC people,

Does anyone know the HEC-RAS limit for number of cross-sections and bridges. I am working on a very large stream with lots of tributaries and just received a message about an array subscript exceeding bounds. I really don't want to break it up into two projects. Does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks in advance,

Re: HEC-RAS limits

Dear Cheryl :

Note that we have expanded HEC-2's and HEC-RAS' capabilities with our BOSS RMS and BOSS RiverCAD products.

Both of these programs can handle 1,500 ground points per cross-section, can handle 600 cross-sections per project, and can handle up to 100 projects in the same drawing file. In addition, they allow you to convert back and forth between HEC-RAS and HEC-2 on the fly (allowing you to compare modeling results between the two engines). Both programs can cut cross-sections digitially off of 3D terrain maps, can construct 3D terrain maps using either ESRI grid data, USGS DEM data, USGS DLG hypsograph data, Canadian DEM data, and other data formats. Finally, they can construct 3D digital floodplain and floodway maps from the computed HEC-2 and HEC-RAS results, and can even export all of the floodplain mapping data (and input data) to GIS using shapefiles.

Note that additional information on these programs is available from our websites, including downloading trial versions of the software.

Sincerely,

Re: HEC-RAS limits

It is my understanding that HEC-RAS has no fixed limit on the number of cross-sections or bridges. (in contrast, HEC-2 is limited to 800 cross-sections per run). How many bridges and cross-sections do you have? We have some pretty big runs here in the office, and I have talked with some others who said that the only limit that affected them was the fact that the model simply became so big that it took too long to process it, even with a fast computer.

Re: HEC-RAS limits

Could it be the memory capacity of your computer?

HEC-RAS limits

HEC people,

I have finally traced my problem. It seems that there is a limit of around 35 on the number of pictures that can be defined under "view pictures". Has anyone else come across this problem? Is there a work around?

Thanks,
