HEC-DSS installation

Greetings--

Has anyone successfully downloaded and installed the HEC-DSS program recently from the HEC web page? After downloading the 5 files (DSS10F3, DSS2OF3, DSS3OF3, DSS1OF2, and DSS2OF2), the extracted files from DSS1OF3 are much too large to fit on a floppy to create an installation disk, and the program doesn't seem to read from a c: drive designation. I already changed the config.sys as required. Any quick tips on that would be greatly appreciated. (I also assume that I cannot update the files to the new windows versions available on the HEC 2000 website until I have successfully installed the pc- dos version--?).

Many thanks,

Dear Rich;

I haven't encountered this problem; actually the DSS1OF3 is the smallest one! Extracted file sizes from the original installation EXE files listed below.

Original File - Extracted file sizes (Bytes)

DSS1OF2.EXE 1,040,456
DSS2OF2.EXE 1,196,020
DSS1OF3.EXE 983,222
DSS2OF3.EXE 1,156,270
DSS3OF3.EXE 1,140,444

As you can see all these are less than 1.44Mb. I've followed the installation procedure and after its completion, I still could not use many utilities (ex. dsplay). I use View-DSS module in HEC-RAS to view and draw DSS files and use DSSTS.EXE to create a time series data. (You can get this file and others by extracting above mentioned file as well as DISK1.EXE, DISK2.EXE and DISK3.EXE on your hard drive) I suggest you to create a script file for input and edit time series data. (See DSSTS.PDF file for details). I know it's not a simple way but at the present time it's most efficient way. Let us pray that the HEC experts develop Windows based DSS utilities.

Good luck
