Inline gated spillways

When defining an inline gated spillway there are two possible gate types avaliable in RMS; 1) radial gates and 2) sluice gates.
However, when selecting "sluice gate" as the gate type, RMS requires that the user enters data that is irrelevant for sluice gates, for example trunnion exponent, opening exponent and head exponent are all required. This data that is NOT used for sluice gate calculations!

Why is this data required, and how is it used in the calculations?
