Recutting cross-sections with new topo data

I am still having a problem figuring out how to introduce new contour data into an existing model without having to completely redraw the cross sections. My current model has over 500 sections and we just had a new contour map made. The major change in contour was in the channel area. Therefore, we would like to just remove the old contour map and have BOSS-RMS "recut" the cross sections using the new contour map. I'm sure there must be a way to do this but haven't figured it out.

If you know someone at Boss Intl. or anywhere else that can help with this problem please let me know.

Thank you for your help.

Re: Recutting cross-sections with new topo data

Dear Ken :

To introduce the new contour line data, you need to perform a block insert. You can select Insert | Block in AutoCAD. This command will allow you to insert an external drawing file into the current drawing. Make certain that you choose "Explode" so that the drawing becomes part of the current drawing file.

Note that you might have problems inserting new contours into the current drawing file if the 2 drawing files use the same layer names for the contour line data. Therefore, you may have to rename one of the drawing file layers first so that the two sets of contours will be on individual layers.

Then, to recut the cross-sections with the new contour data, RMS (and RiverCAD) will automatically recut this data for you. From the RMS (RiverCAD) HEC-2 or HEC-RAS Menu, select Input | Ground Geometry | Recut Topo. The software will present you with a dialog box, allowing you to select which drawing layers you want to use as an elevation source, as well as defining whether the new cross-sections should be placed in a new river reach.

Note that the bank stations will need to be checked at each cross-section, since the new topo data will have new ground point stations than the original topo map. It is required that the bank stations match that of an existing ground station.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.
