Modeling Topo Changes

Chris,

I am working on a project that proposes constructing soccer fields in an existing floodplain area. This will obviously require changing the grades in this area. I am working from an existing HEC-2 file which I have topo linked sections in the study area and added more sections between. When I go to the proposed grading condition, I will have a different set of contours. Is there a way to get RiverCad to re-pull the elevations based on the new topo for the already run sections? Or will I need to start with a clean CAD file, link the existing HEC-2 sections and use the screen 3D map command to re-cut the sections that are changed?

Thanks

Re: Modeling Topo Changes

Dear Stu :

Note that RiverCAD / RMS can easily recut the cross-sections with the new topographic data. First, make certain that you have defined the new topo data as the elevation source data (Modules | Configure | Elevation Data). Then, select the cross-section that you want to recut the ground geometry for. Finally, select Input | Ground Geometry | Recut Topo. RiverCAD / RMS will then recut the topo map.

Re: Modeling Topo Changes

Thanks! The recut works as advertised.

Another question, I need to compare the results from two runs that have the same stationing, flow, etc. but are based on differing topography i.e. proposed grading vs. existing. I can't figure out a way to see both sets of results on the same profiles & sections. I can recut and save to a different reach, but I can't get them superimposed.

Thanks

Stu

Re: Modeling Topo Changes

Dear Stu :

Note that you would have to do a little CAD manipulation to overlap the 2 sets of cross- sections and profile plots. You would need to use the MOVE command to move one of the cross-section grids on top of the others.

HOWEVER, when you move any of our entity data (i.e., cross-section grids, etc.), you end up destroying our link to the entity. Therefore, I STRONGLY recommend creating a copy of the drawing file before manipulating the data. That way, our RMS / RiverCAD application can still manipulate the data with the backup drawing file.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.
