Viewing Cross-Section Grids

I know that you can click on the "view cross section grid" icon to display a selected grid in the current viewport. This has worked fine in the past, displaying only the selected grid and enlarging it to fill the viewport size. However, today, when I select to view a cross section grid it seems to do so, but zoom extents in the process causing the cross section to be so small and in the upper right hand corner. How do I reset the view so the selected cross section is shown as large as it can be in the current viewport? Thanks so much for your help!

Nikki

Re: Viewing Cross-Section Grids

Dear Nikki :

I have seen this before.

Note that if you place your Hydraulic Calculator results for a cross-section on the topo map, then the extents of that cross-section will become quite large (the extent of the cross-section grid and the pasted hydraulic calculator results). All you need to do is remove the hydraulic calculator results.

Please check this and let me know if you continue to have problems.

Re: Viewing Cross-Section Grids

Chris,

I have not used the hydraulic calculator yet with this project. I can't see anything else either in the viewport besides the clump of cross sections and my topo. I opened another project I'm working on and that one seemed to work fine. I even tried restarting my computer. Do you think there could be something that I am just not seeing in the viewport? It is really strange because it was displaying cross sections fine on Friday, but it not at all today. Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you again so much for your time and help.

Re: Viewing Cross-Section Grids

Dear Nikki :

RiverCAD / RMS is calculating the extents of the cross-section grid, and there is something sitting out in the far distance that is linked to the cross-section grid. Commonly I see the hydraulic calculator results pasted onto the topo map that causes this. Perhaps there is something else that is linked to the cross-sections that RiverCAD / RMS is seeing that is outside of the cross-section grid.

If you still cannot determine what the problem is, can you please send me your drawing file so that I can to reproduce the problem here. Please make certain that you send it as a ZIP file so that I get it intact.

As soon as I can determine an answer to this, I will let you know. If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.

Re: Viewing Cross-Section Grids

Dear Chris,

You know what, I moved the cross sections because they were so far out in the extents. I wanted to bring them a little closer to the topo. Is that why it is not zooming in? How would I get the cross section grids back to their original position? or do I have to re-cut them?

Thank you so much,
Nikki Trzcinksi

Re: Viewing Cross-Section Grids

Dear Nikki :

You need to move the cross-sections grids using our commands, not manually moving them.

To move the cross-section grids closer to the topo map, select Modules | Configure | Cross-Section Grids (or Input | Cross-Sections | Configure Cross-Section Grids). Then, from the displayed Configure Cross-Section Grids dialog box, choose <Pick> next to the Layout Point entry. You can then pick a point near to your topo map, and RMS / RiverCAD will move the grids to that new location.

Note that if you manually moved the cross-section grids, you may need to delete them (using our command, Input | Cross-Sections | Delete Cross-Section Grid) and recut your cross-section cut.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.
