Importing a DEM

I am not used to working with DEMs, only DTMS, and so I am not sure how to create a 3d Grid in RMS. I have point files and breakline files, points are 50 foot spacing. I am not sure how to get these files into a ESRI ACSII Grid file format so they are importable. In the past I have just brought a 3d topo file in via AutoCAD, but the problem with this is that when I cut cross-sections from contours I get flat triangles in the bottom of the channel. I would really like to be able to cut the cross-sections directly from the DEM to avoid that problem. Where do I start?
