HEC-RAS Importing

Hi, I am trying to load my HEC-RAS file into RiverCAD. When I import the file I have the cross-sections appear. Is it possible to display the locations of these cross-sections on a contour map that I have already opened in RiverCAD.

Re: HEC-RAS Importing

Hi,

You could select all the layers after importing the HEC-RAS file in RiverCAD and move all the layers on top of the contour map.

Otherwise, you could import the contour in the existing drawing as an External Reference from the 'Insert' menu under 'CAD Drafting' module.

If you want to update your all the imported cross-sections based on the contour map then use 'Recut existing cross sections' after overlaying properly, by using contour as your elevation layer. It will automatically update all the cross-sections at one go depending upon the contour data.

Thanks,

Re: HEC-RAS Importing

I attempted to import the files but was unable to get the cross-sections to display properly on the topo map. They appeared only as lines. Maybe if I explain my process then it might be possible to determine where I went wrong of if what i am doing is possible.

I build a contour, and cross-section file in HEC-GeoRAS. Then export this file to HEC-RAS, then run an analysis. I then attempt to import the HEC-RAS project into RiverCAD. This builds the cross-sections vertical profiles, however there is no cross-section data that is applied to the top map, or the lines that exsist there. Is it possible to build just the lines on my topo map from HEC-RAS data, or do I have to rebuild them manually by linking them with the link command?

Re: HEC-RAS Importing

If the original HEC-RAS file has the cross sections in the correct location on the topo map, then when you import the HEC-RAS model into RiverCAD the cross sections should appear in the correct location. However, you need to make certain to select the radio button item "Use real world coordinates" and not "Use HEC-RAS virtual coordinates (schematic)" in the Import HEC-RAS Project dialog box.

If you continue to have difficulty in importing your HEC-RAS model, please forward all of the associated HEC-RAS data to me as a ZIP file and I will look at it and get back to you as quickly as possible.
