Network Server Technical Information
The Network Server Version of BOSS RMS allows you
to install the software on a network file server,
enabling anyone connected to the file server to
access the software without having the software
actually installed on their individual computer.
The Network Server Version (by default) allows only
one concurrent network user to use the software at
any time. Additional concurrent network user counts
may be purchased from BOSS International, allowing
multiple users to access the software simultaneously
from the file server.
For BOSS RMS to properly prevent accidental file
overwriting, a file-sharing, file-locking program
(i.e., SHARE.EXE when using DOS or VSHARE.386
when using Windows for Workgroups) must be loaded
on both the file server and the individual
workstation. For more information on these programs,
consult your DOS or Windows for Workgroups User
Manuals.
BOSS RMS requires the use of an application network
control directory. This directory is automatically
created off the root directory of the network file
server drive in which the application was installed
during the installation of the program, and is called
BOSS-LAN. Read and write access rights must be
granted for network users of the application to this
directory, and to the directory in which the
application was installed. If read and write access
is not provided, the application will politely report
the problem and then shut down.
