Converting HEC-2 normal bridge to HEC-RAS
When converting a HEC-2 normal bridge to a HEC-RAS
bridge, it is important to remove either the 2
exterior face or 2 interior face cross-sections from
the 6 cross-sections used to define the HEC-2 normal
bridge. This is because only 4 cross-sections are
used to define a HEC-RAS bridge.
Since roadway and bridge low chord geometry information
is defined at the HEC-2 normal bridge interior
cross-sections, it is generally recommended to delete
the 2 exterior face cross-sections from the model and
define the downstream interior face cross-sections as
the HEC-RAS bridge declaration cross-section. In this
way, all of the necessary roadway and low chord
geometry information will already be defined for the
HEC-RAS bridge.
Note that any HEC-2 normal bridge piers defined by the
low chord geometry should be converted to HEC-RAS
bridge pier data.
If the 2 extra exterior face cross-sections are not
deleted from the HEC-RAS model, inaccurate modeling of
the bridge hydraulics can occur.
