RMS for AutoCAD

Dear Chris:

I am modelling the conveyance of the design flood in a river reach near Torino.
A survey supplied points, 3D-polylines, simple polylines at z=0.
I derived cross sections by picking points (eventually adding points with
correct elevation) and connectiong them in Ground Geometry-3D Screen Map.
The analysis was likely, but water surface derived in Topo Map Water Surface
is wrong.
I started switching off layers with no elevation, or fake one (I see that
also BOSS-TOPOCUT lines have fuzzy elevations).
The question is: why 3D lines of active layers are not accepted in drawing
triangles (for instance, there is an embankment through the flood plain
which is ignored, and the same happens if I add 3D points, exactly in the
same way I supplied points to cross sections) ?

Sincerely

Re: RMS for AutoCAD

Dear Virgilio ANSELMO :

Note that RMS will only use the layers that you have specified in the "Configure Elevation Layers" dialog box in constructing its 3-D terrain model. Therefore, in this dialog box you must set to "use" those layers that you want the software to look at in constructing the 3-D terrain model. Otherwise they are ignored (by default). Note that all of the "BOSS" layers are ignored automatically when generating the terrain model.

Also, it sounds like you might be confusing the standard AutoCAD Layers dialog box with RMS' Configure Elevation Layers dialog box. RMS does not use the AutoCAD Layers dialog box for determining what layers should be used in constructing a terrain model.

It may be necessary, as well, that you need to add additional ground data to restrict the edge of water computations if there is not enough terrain information.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me immediately.

Sincerely,
