Ground Point Reduction

Hello there,

as I´ve got no mail from this mailing list since I subscribed more
than a year ago, I hope somebody will read this and can help me.

My question regards the Ground Point Reduction. RMS allows to
select FEMA rules to use in reducing the number of ground points
for a cross-section. They really do a great job in sensefully
simplifying cross-sections.

For a report I have to describe the algorithms that were used in a
project I did using RMS. So I investigated a lot to find the
algorithm, but wasn´t very successful. I also tested different other
reduction-algorithms, but the results always are more or less
different.

So, can anybody give me a hint where to find the algorithm RMS
uses for reducing ground points? I would appreciate every
information as otherwise I´ve some problems to finish my work
properly.

Thank´s in advance,
H. Gabriel

Re: Ground Point Reduction

Dear Hannes Gabriel :

The method is derived from a report published by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) in the USA. They are in charge of flood studies. The rules that are listed in the ground point reduction dialog box are what they published. I developed the algorithm that removes the points to maintain compliance with these rules.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.

Re: FW: Ground Point Reduction

Dear Chris Maeder,

first of all thank´s for the info regarding my reply adress; I hope I
fixed the problem.

And thank´s for your informations on the subject. I was hoping that
the algorithm was developed by FEMA itself, so maybe would be
public.

Nevertheless, thank you for the quick response!

Greetings,
H. Gabriel
