Chris,

I have these 2 files, however, the work quite differently. The import.flx file appears to work correctly and will allow me to type in a ID number at the "pick cross section" prompt, however, the final.flx file will not be able to pick the cross-section (unable to find cross section). The only way to change the cross-section is to pick the pallete tool and view that cross-section. Secondly, the import file allows me to add cross-section points to the ends of the already described cross section, however, the final file will draw a line from the where the x-section grid is located (next to the topo map) all the way across the screen to the topo map (therefore a station of 564000 and elevation of 57104.32 will be input). Please let me know if that was unclear or have any questions. Thanks.

RE: River Cad

Chris,

Thanks for the information, however, I tried to start the file over and had problems. I went into microstation and exported a .dxf. Then I opened this .dxf in RiverCAD and saved it. From there I went to the HEC-RAS module and imported an existing HEC-RAS .prj file. After importing it I tried to see if I could change the current cross-section by simply going to "pick cross-section." However, the same error occurred where "Not found: cross- section grid 80191 still selected." I did nothing with the layers in this new file, however, the same problem exists. Furthermore, the same problem with inserting additional cross-section points occurs. For example the yellow line that is on Boss_Topo cut will be drawn from the cross-section grid to the new point instead of from the topo map location to the new point. I wondered if this makes sense or if you have any reason for this error. Furthermore, the "import.flx" file that I sent to you had almost all the Boss layers turned off, however, I can still pick the cross-section by typing in the number and add points. When I add the points in that file, each point is highlighted on the cross- section grid with a white square. This does not happen in the newest file I created. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks.

RE: River Cad

Dear Jason :

You did a "no no" on our drawings and corrupted them. You cannot turn our layers OFF, LOCK, or FROZEN without causing severe problems to the drawing. If you do, then we cannot write information to those layers, thereby corrupting the drawing. The drawing file INITIAL has nearly all of our drawing layers turned OFF. Hence, the corrupted drawing.

Note that RiverCAD 2000, which is now available, checks for this on a regular basis, and will warn the user in these cases.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.

RE: River Cad

Dear Jason :

One last time--DO NOT TURN OFF OUR LAYERS! I know, I wrote the software.

You were lucky that the software was running (on borrowed time) with your initial drawing file. However, with time the file would stop working. If you MUST turn off our layers, do not use ANY of our commands. When you do need to use our commands, then you have to restore our layers back to their original status before using these commands. RiverCAD 2000 will warn the user if they turn OFF any of our layers.

In what you explained with regard to importing a HEC-RAS model into a Microstation drawing files--from what you told me there were no "linked" cross-sections on the topo map. Your statement about seeing a yellow topo map line in the new file does not make any sense. You did not state you linked any cross-sections to the topo map.

Therefore, if there are no linked cross-sections on the map, the Pick Cross-Section Grid command will not work. You need to use the View Cross-Section Grid command. The Pick command is meant to allow you to point at a cross-section on the topo map and have it automatically become current. Therefore, it was not reporting an error to you

"Not found: cross-section grid 80191 still selected."

It was stating the obvious. You did not click on anything it recognized as being our data and the current cross-section 80191 is still the current cross-section.

Try selecting Input | Cross-Sections | View Cross-Section Grid. This menu command will display a list of all the cross-sections. Then, select the cross-section grid you are interested in and select <OK>. This cross-section will then be displayed in the current viewport, and this new cross-section will be made current.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.
