copying cross sections from one reach to another in RCAD?

Hey Chris,

I have two reaches in one drawing file. Both imported the same HEC-2 file
(cause I didn't know how to copy one reach to another). For the second
reach I didn't need all the sections, so I deleted several sections. The
sections I kept have all been modified somehow and an additional section
added.

Project limits have changed requiring me to extend the analysis (HEC-RAS
module) further downstream. How do I copy the downstream sections that I
need from my first reach to my second reach? I want to avoid having to
type these previously imported sections and I want to avoid having to
import again or start a different drawing file.

And I guess this would also answer another question I just thought of -
having an existing reach and a proposed reach where the proposed reach
would be a copy of the existing (with the appropriate modifications made).

Thanks,

Al Garcia

Re: copying cross sections from one reach to another in RCAD?

Dear Al :

You can copy a cross-section to another river reach very easily.

1. Make the cross-section you want to copy current.

2. Select Input | Cross-Section | Copy Cross-Section Grid. This will make a copy this cross-section. However, you will need to name this new cross-section.

3. Name it something very similar to the one that you have. For example, if the current cross-section is 25, then name the copied cross-section 25.1.

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for all of the cross-sections you want to copy to the other river reach.

5. Select Reach | Manager | Reassign Cross-Section. This will display the Reassign Cross-Section dialog box. Select the cross-sections that you want assigned to the other reach, one by one, and move them to the other river reach.

6. Switch to the new river reach by selecting Reach | Manager | Select Reach.

7. Rename the new cross-sections by making each one current, and then selecting Input | Cross-Section Description.

Note that you brought up a good idea. I will add to our future feature list to allow the user to copy cross-sections from one reach to another, without having to go through all of the previously described steps.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.
