more bridge questions

Chris,

I have a bridge in between two different sections. This reach was imported
from a HEC-2 file. They use the special bridge method which means
information is contained in the upstream section. I want to analyze this
in the HEC-RAS module, why can't I copy the deck/roadway information from
the upstream section to the downstream section (w/o having to retype it)?
Or better yet why doesn't RCAD know to automatically change this when
switching from the HEC-2 module to the HEC-RAS module.

Further more why does the deck/roadway stationing information have to match
the ground point stationing? In HEC-RAS (Army Corp version) this is not
required. Again the upstream and downstream sections are different - hence
the stationing is different, how do I get around having to insert any
additional ground stations?

Thanks,

Al Garcia

Re: more bridge questions

Dear Al :

There is no way of copying just the roadway deck data from one cross- section to another cross-section. You need to manually enter it. Nor does RiverCAD automatically do this. We want to shy away from having RiverCAD "manufacture" data without the user being always aware of it. That is why we feel strongly that the engineer should realize that the two bridge methods are distinctly different, and wherever possible, RCAD will share data between HEC-2 and HEC-RAS.

RiverCAD does not "force" the user to have the roadway stationing use the same stationing as the ground data when entering HEC-RAS data. This is completely optional. By default, the option "Snap to Ground Stations" is turned ON so that data is more easily shared with HEC-2. But, simply toggle this option OFF and you can place the roadway stationing anywhere you wish.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.

Sincerely,
