Re: BOSS RMS

Hello Jim,

I write you again trying to express in a more specified way what I need.

The questions will be as follows:

Could I draw the reach and later order the computer programme to draw
automatically transversal sections each 200 meters for instance? And later
on, in a similar way to the HEC-RAS tables, to fill up the mannigs and
distances datas?

Could the bank stations be introduced through auxiliary lines in the ground
drawings?

The translator will thank you to answer these questions via e-mail.

Yours faithfully

Miguel Angel

Re: BOSS RMS

Dear Miguel Angel Gago :

Note that RMS does not have a method of automatically cutting several cross-sections all at once, based upon a specified spacing along a river centerline. We purposely did not want to do that, since we are not developing a road (highway) model, but rather a river model. Therefore, it is our feeling that the engineer should make certain that the cross-sections are cut perpendicularly to the flow.

In a similar consideration, the bank stations also cannot automatically be read from lines drawn on the horizontal plan. Rather, the user must select the bank stations from either the cross-section view or the topo map view.

However, I can see some circumstances where you might want to have the software automatically cut cross-sections and determine the bank locations--such as when modeling a canal where the channel is very uniform and straight. Is that what type of river modeling you are performing? Perhaps this is something we can add to the software in a subsequent release.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.

Sincerely,

Chris E. Maeder, M.S.
