Modeling of storage areas

Chris,

I am running HEC-RAS 3.0 recently. It has a interesting new feature to allow us deal with storage areas, which always give me hardtime. So I am wondering if the RiverCAD can also cover those storage areas so that we don't have to manually make patches on our floodplain maps?

Thanks a lot for your help

Have a good one

Re: Modeling of storage areas

Dear Zhenxi Chen :

Note that I have just started looking at HEC-RAS 3.0, so I cannot really comment too much yet about this. However, our plans are to fully implement the steady state flow engine of HEC-RAS 3.0 with RiverCAD / RMS Version 2001. I do not have a projected release date yet. However, it is an important item. There are many other new features that have been implemented into Version 2001.

The current method that RiverCAD and RMS uses to do the floodplain mapping will be greatly improved in Version 2001. It should be able to do a much better job of modeling the floodplain map of off-channel storage areas. However, note that HEC-RAS' implementation of off- channel storage areas has to deal with ineffective flow areas with regard to the hydrodynamic model UNET. This can effect the routing of a hydrograph as it travels downstream.

If you have any additional questions or need any further information, please contact me again.

Sincerely,
