Inlet Structures - VDOT

Chris
Another engineer in our office saw a presentation regarding this product and thought that the presenter may have said that Boss had a database of inlet structures used by the Virginia Dept of Transportation for use in stormNET. We could obviously enter the information by hand, but if there was a way to simply have the information in the 'Inlet Manufacturer' pulldown menu it would obviously save time.

Thanks for your help.

Jesse:

We actually have the data from the Virginia DOT regarding their standard inlets. We have data from 15 different inlet foundry manufacturers and many state DOTs. We have already added some of this data to StormNET's internal database, and plan to add the remainder of this data over the next couple of months.

In the meantime, there is a work around. While it is not as "slick" as selecting a "VDOT DI-1 Grated Drop Inlet Structure" from a drop down list, it will work very effectively. Define a FHWA inlet that represents the specifications of the VDOT inlet structure you need to represent in your model. Once this inlet is defined, you can then use it as a "template" inlet for the remainder of the model. Place the cursor over the template inlet and select "Duplicate". You can then place duplicate inlets at other locations in your model where they exist. The only attribute data that need to then be defined are the inlet sump elevation, inlet rim elevation, roadway longitudinal and cross slopes, and gutter cross slope.

If you have already defined the inlets in your model and you want to quickly define the properties of all of them based upon the template inlet, right click on the template inlet. Then, select "Copy Properties" from the pop-up menu. Then, right click on the inlets that you want to paste the inlet attributes to. Select "Paste Properties" on these inlets. Again, the only attribute data that need to then be defined are the inlet sump elevation, inlet rim elevation, roadway longitudinal and cross slopes, and gutter cross slope.
