Pipe Detention

Can you use and orifice and pipe layout to simulate detention without actually defining a detention basin?

I run a model in hydrodynamic mode without a detention pond and the links get surcharged but the nodes do not get surcharged. When I try to insert a detention pond it comes out looking like I need a whole lot more pipe in order to not have any links surcharged.

StormNET accounts for all of the storage in all of the network elements (i.e., pipes, junctions, etc.) when it performs its routing. Therefore, you can define an underground storage facility using only pipes and junctions.

Alternatively, you can define an equivalent underground storage facility using a "detention pond" that matches the storage characteristics of the underground pipe system. This is documented in the StormNET User Manual in the section titled "On-Site Underground Detention/Retention" in the numbered section titled "Detention Pond Storage Curves".
