Profile Plot & EGL

Hello.

I tried to plot the Energy grade line (EGL) from the profile plot options. But the check box that allows me to see it is always inactivated and prevent me to check it. How can make the EGL visible in the profile plot (and not just the HGL which doesn't include velocity energy). If the info about EGL is reachable from a specific summary table, it would nice as well.

Thanks for your support,

Martin BV

Note that the EGL option is on our list of features to add to the software. Since StormNET is a dynamic model, it is more complex to add the EGL option than other software that only plot the peak HGL.

But is there any way to know about total energy (EGL)? The software should somehow calculate the total energy available for the routing. Software like Hec-RAS gives explicitly Energy Grade line and Head losses.

I need to know the EGL in order to know, for example, the head losses (by friction and minor) calculated by the software between two nodes. An other way to get the EGL could be to add velocity head to HGL, but that information is not available from the output.

Is there any ways that I could deduce the EGL from the actual version of StormNet (4.16.0.17224). That's a useful (I should say necessary) information for the kind of project I work with.

Thanks for your help,

Martin

Martin:

Part of the problem is that the SWMM routing engine does not have the EGL value. We have yet to incorporate this into the SWMM engine. The quickest way is to simply add the velocity head to the hydraulic head to come up with the total energy head.

The velocity head is computed as:
h = v² / 2 g
where:
v = velocity (ft/s, m/s)
g = acceleration of gravity (32.174 ft/s², 9.81 m/s²)
