RiverCAD Overview

RiverCAD® is a sophisticated river modeling software that completely supports HEC-RAS and HEC-2 within AutoCAD or its own stand-alone CAD environment. RiverCAD makes it even easier to compute water surface profiles for modeling bridges, culverts, spillways, levees, bridge scour, floodway delineation, floodplain reclamation, stream diversions, channel improvements, and split flows. RiverCAD reads and writes data from the latest versions of HEC-RAS and HEC-2.

AutoCAD and Stand-Alone Versions

RiverCAD is available either as an AutoCAD® application, or with its own stand-alone AutoCAD compatible CAD environment. As an AutoCAD application, RiverCAD easily integrates with other third-party AutoCAD applications—allowing sharing of data. As a stand-alone AutoCAD compatible application, RiverCAD is 100% compatible with AutoCAD—allowing it to directly read and write DWG drawing files.

Supports latest versions of HEC-RAS and HEC-2

RiverCAD fully supports the latest version of HEC-RAS and HEC-2, allowing you complete flexibility in importing and exporting of HEC-RAS and HEC-2 data without any loss of data. Using RiverCAD’s terrain modeling capability, a river model can be developed from any type of digital data, including 3D digital contour maps and TINs, DEMs (digital elevation models), 2D digital contour maps, hard copy contour maps, hard copy cross-section plots, on-screen digitizing, manual data entry, and importation of complete or partial HEC-2 or HEC-RAS input files, station-elevation, Northing-Easting, or XYZ coordinate data.

Seamless AutoCAD Integration

RiverCAD AutoCAD version operates directly within AutoCAD versions 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2002, and 2000, providing you with seamless integration with AutoCAD, Land Desktop, Civil 3D, and third-party AutoCAD applications. RiverCAD AutoCAD version provides users with a high level of precision by leveraging AutoCAD’s drafting tools and other CAD automation features.

Complete AutoCAD Support

RiverCAD stand-alone version natively supports AutoCAD DWG drawing files without loss of data or functionality. The ability to work natively with both DWG and DGN drawing file formats is extremely valuable. RiverCAD supports AutoCAD 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2002, 2000, v14, v13, and v12 DWG and DXF drawing files with round-trip retention of drawing elements.

RiverCAD stand-alone version provides exceptional compatibility with AutoCAD®, the leading CAD system worldwide. RiverCAD has over 300 AutoCAD compatible commands that require virtually no relearning, providing your users a shared AutoCAD and RiverCAD workplace.

RiverCAD incorporates a completely open architecture design, with drag-and-drop placement of command icons. Three different desktops (user interfaces) are included, making RiverCAD instantly usable by AutoCAD familiar operators. RiverCAD’s visual menu, dialog, and toolbox editors allow users of any skill level to instantly customize the desktop for maximum user productivity.

RiverCAD has all of the drawing and editing commands most CAD professionals expect. Advanced 2D drawing commands, (i.e., trim, offset, insert) complement sophisticated functions (associated dimensioning and hatching). RiverCAD offers extensive 3D element processing and creation. Rendering and polyline and polyface hiding is based on the latest Open GL™ standards, reducing the time needed to perform complex imaging tasks.

A dockable toolbar is provided, allowing the user to more easily interact with AutoCAD and RiverCAD.

Digital Terrain Modeling Module

RiverCAD provides an integrated Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM) Module, allowing you to quickly develop a digital terrain model of the river from nearly any type of data, including spot elevations, survey data, LIDAR data, Autodesk LDD data, MicroStation DTM data, etc. Improvements and enhancements to the river channel and floodplain can be quickly incorporated into the terrain model, allowing you to see the change to the computed flooding. Changes to bridge abutments can be quickly added to a model, and the resulting river profile seen.

Cut and fill volumes can be quickly computed by RiverCAD, allowing you to optimize the amount of earthwork required for channel improvements and modifications.

Sophisticated Scenario Analyzer

Included with RiverCAD is a sophisticated HEC-RAS and HEC-2 Scenario Analyzer—like nothing else out there! RiverCAD’s Scenario Analyzer allows you to quickly compare analysis runs, examining the output at any level of detail required. Multiple graphical plots and output tables can be stacked on top of each other, showing whatever variables you select.

Customization of graphical plots and output tables is supported, allowing you unlimited flexibility. Once a customized output layout has been defined, it can be saved as a template for use later.

Faster Floodplain Encroachment Modeling

RiverCAD allows you to quickly determine the encroachment stations that match the allowable rise—an order of magnitude faster than the Army Corps’ HEC-RAS program. RiverCAD will allow you to see simultaneously, the incremental rise, velocity, and top width of the specified encroachments along the river, allowing you to quickly determine the appropriate target encroachment stations to use. To change the encroachment targets, simply make the encroachment target change, click a button and the results are presented.
